Spoilers:
I don’t think I have fully fallen in love with an episode yet this season, but I am going to go ahead and say that I have fallen for this episode and I have no intentions of getting up. It wasn’t just the fact that I got to see Jon Snow for an entire episode, even though that is one hell of a reason. I loved it because it was ridden with battle plans and skilled swordplay. It was so intricate yet chaotic. It was pure war-like beauty.
I love watching battles portrayed on the screen. And not just like a modern day gun battle with explosions, but either a sword and sandal or a medieval. Those two types of battles are my favorite. I love watching the skill of how they hold their sword and pull back their bow. It’s so interesting. And throughout this episode, I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen, I was mesmerized.
I was glad to see Gilly back with Sam. Frankly, they are perfect for each other. I adore watching how awkwardly adorable they are together and I love the courage Gilly brings to Sam. It’s like she makes him stronger.
And speaking of love, how about that farewell death scene between Jon and Ygritte. Absolutely bittersweet. I love Ygritte’s character, but I hate to put a damper on the mood. I really thought that Ygritte is not the best suited for Jon. They’re amazing together, but are they perfect for each other? I really don’t think they are. Although, I really hated to see her die.
I could go on and on all day about the structure of the battle and how brave the men were (except that guy who chickened out and hid with Gilly), but I really shouldn’t. This post would be miles long if I did. I will just say how immensely happy I am to have this episode in the Game of Thrones arsenal.
I tweeted throughout the episode and if you want to read my thoughts on the episode as it happened, you can go to my twitter. My handle is essiedarcy.
Until the next episode.
Most Sincerely,
Jessica
